Across-Government Records Management Strategy

The Across-Government Records Management Strategy outlines six strategic goals that need to be jointly pursued by both State Records and Agencies/Authorities to ensure the achievement of adequate records management by the Government of South Australia. The State Government requires agencies to more effectively facilitate the development of a more open and accountable government. Adequate records management practices and the implementation of supporting systems significantly contribute to the achievement of this objective.

This Strategy aims to set out a new course for the South Australian Government by addressing some fundamental records management issues and providing a framework for change. It aims to provide strategic targets as well as a planning tool for both State Records and Agencies/Authorities to utilise, initially over the next five years.

ARM Accredited Training and Education Strategy

The Across-Government Records Management Accredited Training and Education Strategy has been developed by State Records of South Australia to address the needs of South Australian public servants.

The 2003 Adequate Records Management Agency Self-Assessment Reports highlighted that less than 2% of Agencies have any formal records management-centric education and training programs for their records management practitioners and staff or induction programs for the trainees, graduates and contractors they employ.

Importantly, the incumbent State Government requires:

  • Agencies and Authorities to effectively facilitate the development of a more open and accountable government
  • all public servants to have knowledge of good records management practices and to more effectively apply records management principles
  • tools and systems used by records management practitioners to significantly contribute to the achievement of this objective.
