Research Centre Rules
The records in the State Records Collection form an irreplaceable resource for researchers. Access to records is provided on the basis that they are managed and protected to ensure their availablility in the future. Before you view records, please do the following:- Register and obtain a Research Centre ID card.
- Leave bags, cases (including laptop computer cases), food, water and pens in the lockers provided.
- Leave your mobile phone in your locker. If you need to take it into the Reading Room, please turn it off or switch to silent. Please do not disturb other researchers by using your mobile phone within the Research Centre.
While in the building, please note the following:- Smoking is not permitted within the building.
- In case of an emergency, State Records staff will direct you to the nearest exits.
- Please follow any instructions or requests from State Records staff.
- Food or drink may not be consumed in the building, except in designated areas.
To help preserve and protect our archival collection:- Use pencils only. Do not use pens or ink.
- Records may not leave the Reading Room.
- Records may not be marked or annotated in any way.
- Original fasteners and order of records must be maintained. Do not detach documents from a file.
- Do not open any sealed envelope on a file or attempt to remove any material held within a sealed envelope. If you wish to view the contents, first discuss the sealed item with Research Centre staff.
An information sheet that gives guidance on handling archival material is available on the link below. State Records wishes to advise all visitors that surveillance cameras are in operation throughout the Research Centres.
