Copying Services

State Records of South Australia offers its customers a range of services for copying original records and other material from our Collection. Copying services are available at both of our Research Centres.

Copying of records from the State Records Collection is subject to the Copyright Act, 1968 which allows for single copies to be provided for research and study purposes only. Further details can be found under Copyright and Publication.

Fees and charges are controlled under the State Records Regulations, 1998 as amended in 2008.

Photocopying

State Records offers a photocopying service for its customers at our two Research Centres.

Copying is subject to the following conditions:

  • copying is undertaken at the discretion of the Archivist on duty
  • copying of original records and reference material is carried out by Research Centre staff only
  • some material cannot be photocopied for reasons of age, fragility, size, shape or format
  • most volumes cannot be copied
  • fees apply for all copying.

How do I obtain a photocopy in a Research Centre?

If you wish to have a document, file or any other item photocopied please:

  • take a yellow 'Photocopying Service' form from one of the containers on a table in the Research Centre
  • complete all details requested on the form, including your name. Staff may not be able to complete your request if you do not fill in the necessary information.
  • please complete a separate form for each item or page to be photocopied
  • place the form with the document to be copied on the shelves in the Research Centre labelled 'Copying'. Your completed order will be returned to you by staff.
  • you may pay for your photocopies at the Information Desk near the entrance to the Research Centre.

Please ask Research Centre staff for assistance if you have any questions about completing the 'Photocopying Service' form.

Photocopying of Colour and Over-sized Documents

Colour copies and copies of over-sized items from our collection can also be arranged.

These services are performed off-site and you will need to allow time for delivery and return of the item. Details for these orders will be provided by quotation only.

Information on the cost of these services and the time taken to process orders can be obtained from Research Centre staff.

Photocopying Microfilm and Microfiche

This type of copying is provided on a self-service basis.

Photographic Copies

Subject to approval from Research Centre staff, you may photograph archival material in the Reading Room with either a digital camera or an ordinary camera. Flash photography is not permitted as this may be harmful to the record.

Alternatively, photographic copies of archival records may be ordered from the Research Centre in the following formats:

  • prints
  • negatives
  • slide duplicates.

Copying Audio-visual material

Copying services for records in audio-visual formats, e.g. film, videotape and audiotape, are also available.

Copying of audio-visual material is performed off-site and you will need to allow time for delivery and return of the item. Details for these orders will be provided by quotation only.

Information on the cost of these services and the time taken to process orders can be obtained from Research Centre staff.

Digital Copies

Digital images of items from our Collection can be arranged by staff upon request.

Duplication of archival material in digital format is performed off-site and you will need to allow time for delivery and return of the item. Details of these orders will be provided by quotation only.
